Jeff Miller was the catalyst behind American Gymnastics. His involvement in the sport began as a boy in Richmond, Virginia . After he mastered his backyard trampoline and learned some other valuable skills, he had an opportunity to coach recreational classes at a local gym, eventually advancing to competitive athletes. Since those early years, Jeff has gained valuable knowledge coaching at several gyms and training with many professional coaches along the way.
By the turn of the new millennium, Jeff wanted his own gym. As a result, American Gymnastics opened in 2002 with lots of help and support from his family. The original location was on Gratiot Avenue in Chesterfield and was home to a girls’ competitive team and an expanding recreational and preschool gymnastics program. A boys’ competitive team was added in 2004, which brought new families and lots of bigger men’s equipment to the facility. With growing programs and a need for more space, the Chesterfield location moved to the larger current location on Sierra Drive in 2009.
Also, in 2004, the Romeo facility opened as American Gymnastics & Cheer Romeo. This location was designed exclusively for recreational gymnastics and cheerleading instruction without competitive teams. This allowed more offerings for special events, Open Gyms and Tumble Clinics for advanced tumblers and cheerleaders, in addition to regular class offerings.
American Gymnastics is proud to offer recreational and competitive programs to meet the needs beginners as well as experienced, competitive gymnasts in a safe and fun learning environment. The classes, programs and special events are designed to keeps kids moving and having fun, and advance them beyond learning a particular skill or routine, providing a basis for physical fitness that improves strength, balance, coordination, and builds self-esteem. While each location offers classes and programs tailored to their area’s needs, being safe, learning skills and having fun are always part of the program.
